the studio

Ross Art Studio is located in a renovated, quarter-mile-long artist/industrial building in Boston, MA. During the ten years the studio has been operating we have honed our equipment and evolved our facility to the point where we can offer capabilities unique in the U.S.

Our array of custom-built kilns will accommodate small object editions as well as large one-of-a-kind pieces. The computer-controlled kilns were designed to perform the demanding, precise annealing programs necessary to relieve the strain in the glass, created as the material transforms from a liquid to a solid.

We use the highest quality materials available, including pure lead crystal Schott glass, or Gaffer casting crystal, imported from New Zealand.

Our pursuit of uncompromised results extends to our mold making, including the use of specialty waxes to render the finest detail; high quality investments provide the best surfaces; and diverse adhesion methods lend structural stability and expand possibilities.

Our full range of diamond cold working equipment includes wet grinders and saws as well as many specialty hand tools, enabling various types of finishing work. And our workspace is set up with scales, pulleys, lifts, and everything else needed to produce large-scale and complex pieces.

Service extends beyond the walls of the studio - in some cases across the country, or internationally. In order to offer our clients an expansive range of capabilities, we’ve formed liaisons with several outside craftspeople, contractors, and facilities. We work with engineers, designers and patternmakers who can provide support in the planning stages of a project; CAD and rapid prototype services are available as well as metal fabricators, foundries, sandblasters, and acid polishers—whatever it takes to meet the needs of our clients.
